SCSS 3rd Technical Talk

SCSS held its third technical talk at the PSB Academy (Bukit Ho Swee Campus) last 24th September 2009.

The event highlights (1) sourcing of cosmetic ingredients on the internet and (2) product testing methods for cosmetic applications.

In an attempt to satisfy the demands of today’s consumers and maintain a marketing edge, formulators need to be well informed. There are many tools available to assist in creating the desired formulation(s).

The speakers represent companies which provide specific services intended to help answer questions from formulators, making their job easier in developing their winning formulation(s).

(1) Eva ZHAI (Business Development Manager - AP) of Chemidex International LLC Shanghai Representative Office, discussed about the growth, trend, importance and the use of the internet as well as the difference between e-marketing channels and traditional channels especially in this difficult economic situation. What formulators and suppliers are looking for in an e-marketing channel and what Chemidex can offer.

(2) Mrs. Jeanette Wong (Managing Director) of ALS Technichem (S) Pte. Ltd with more than 30 years of laboratory testing experience, discussed the importance of water quality, air quality at production and packaging areas, verification of cleaning process and product safety through laboratory confirmation.

Local and international requirements have established needs for GMP in Cosmetic Industry to ensure products are safe to be used. In-house or external laboratory testing has been important for traceability which is required in GMP. External laboratory services can be engaged to further support QC role and or to verify product safety based on certain safety guidelines or criteria.

The technical talk was attended by ~22 participants. This is the second time SCSS held its talk in the classroom type venue which according to Andrew Gan (SCSS President) is the true learning environment. Many of the attendees from the 2nd technical talk favored the location mostly due to its accessibility.
