SCSS ended 2009 with the technical talk highlighting “Ultra Efficient Polymer Pre-Dispersion for Next Generation Emulsification and Rheology Control”. The paper was presented by Mr. Jonathan Sy, CRODA’s Regional Marketing Manager for Personal Care. Twenty three (23) participants attended the event which was held at the Grand Park Hotel last November 04, 2009.

Jonathan emphasized the popularity of pre-dispersed polymers made via inversed emulsion polymerization in modern cosmetic formulations. These polymer dispersions offer ease of use, good rheology control, and impart different sensorial profile, texture and consistency. With CRODA’s new predispersion medium consisting of caprylic/capric triglyceride. Di-PPG-3-myristyl ether adipate and sorbitan isostearate, they were able to come up with an ultraefficient polymer pre-dispersion.

This innovation in polymer pre-dispersion gives formulation benefits beyond those which are currently being offered by powder polyacrylic acid polymers and the traditional pre-dispersions from inverse emulsification polymerization. Being able to reduce emulsifier dosages and stabilize cold processed emulsions, it provides the potential to reduce both formulation cost and energy consumption for a more sustainable emulsification process.

Overall, the session was well received and very interactive.

Rest assured that SCSS will organize more interesting technical talks in 2010!
