Inaugurated in December 2003, the SCSS was founded by a handful of people who wanted to rally all cosmetic professionals and scientists to facilitate a fellowship of individuals whose passion and vocation has something to do with the science of cosmetics and beauty.

The SCSS membership is purely individual, and although initially sponsored by 6 corporate benefactors (namely, DSM, Chaks Cosmetic Design, McIntyre, Ajinomoto, Symrise & Step Exhibitions), the Society is an entirely independent, non-commercial and non-profit organization.

An affiliate member of the IFSCC, the SCSS has held a major scientific conference, ASCS 2007, which took place in March 2007. With 313 participants from 28 countries, the SCSS has succeeded in putting Singapore on the world’s cosmetic map.
