we will be holding a technical talk this November. We
are honored to have Dr. Wang Chang, Technical Specialist,
from Rhodia Asia Pacific’s research centre, as
the speaker for the afternoon talk.

Topic: Polyquaternium-74 – A New High Performance
Conditioning Polymer
Synopsis
The objective of this study is to evaluate the hair
conditioning performance of a newly developed conditioning
polymer: polyquaternium-74 (PQ-74) against conventional
conditioning polymers such as polyquaternium-10 (PQ-10)
and guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride (cationic guar)
using different characterizing methods including UV-Vis
spectrometry, scanning electron microscope, gel permeation
chromatography and etc. It was found that PQ-74 has
strong affinity with hair surface and is able to restore
the disrupted cuticle and repair the damaged hair. The
results also demonstrate that PQ-74 form intense flocculation
over a wide range of dilution factor during rinsing,
resulting in the enhanced silicone deposition on hair.
Moreover, the polymer offers excellent wet and dry hair
detangling; significantly improves hair shine; and gives
soft and light dry hair feel with good manageability
and no build-up effect.
